Police await post-mortem as questions mount over cause of blaze

Patna: In a deeply disturbing incident, two young children were found burnt to death inside their home in Patna’s Janipur locality on Thursday morning. The horrific discovery has left the local community shaken, as police continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.

“We received information early Thursday that two children were lying dead inside their house in Janipur. The bed was also burnt. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” said a local police officer.

Phulwari Sharif DSP 2, Deepak Kumar, confirmed the deaths were due to burn injuries but noted that the exact cause of the fire remains unclear. “A full investigation is underway,” he added.

Parents Identified, Motive Still Unknown

Sources say the children's mother works as a security guard at AIIMS Patna, while their father is employed with the Election Commission. The couple had reportedly left for work early that morning, leaving the children at home.

Police have registered a case and are examining all possible angles, including accidental fire, foul play, and electrical faults. Forensic teams are expected to assist in piecing together the sequence of events.

Rising Tide of Violence in Bihar

The case adds to a worrying pattern of violent and tragic incidents in Bihar. Earlier in July, a mob in Purnia allegedly murdered and burned five members of a family over suspicions of witchcraft. In Nalanda, a minor scuffle between children escalated into deadly gunfire between adults.

With rising concerns over public safety, the Janipur incident underscores the urgent need for improved emergency response and preventive measures across the state.
