NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences over the tragic loss of lives at the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh. He conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
In his post on X, PM Modi mentioned that he had spoken to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and was assured that all necessary measures were being taken to support the affected individuals and assist the local administration in managing the situation. The Prime Minister also highlighted the active efforts of the local authorities to provide aid to the victims.
PM Modi reiterated that the state government is fully engaged in offering all possible help to those impacted by the tragedy and that he is staying in continuous contact with the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure swift action and support for the victims.
On Wednesday, the Maha Kumbh Mela witnessed a stampede due to which over 70 have been injured and at least 15 are feared dead. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath stated that around 3.5 crore people had taken a holy dip by 8:30 am.
The stampede took place at around 2 am in the morning at the Triveni Sangam where devotees had rushed to take a dip to wash their sins. The injured individuals were immediately taken to the hospital by the ambulances that were present at the scene.
