World Hindi Day also known as Vishwa Hindi Divas is celebrated every year across the globe on 10 January and this year the day falls on Monday. The day is celebrated worldwide to promote and value the Hindi language.
World Hindi Day is similar to National Hindi Diwas but the only difference is with the dates as people observe the National Hindi Diwas on 14 September in India.
THEME
The theme of World Hindi Day 2022 is to make the language Hindi a part of public opinion, although it doesn't necessarily mean that one needs to leave their mother tongue.
HISTORY:
World Hindi Day is observed to commemorate the anniversary of the first-ever World Hindi conference that was held on 10 January 1975 in Nagpur city of India's Maharashtra.
The inauguration of the international Hindi conference was done by then Prime Minister of the country Indira Gandhi. The grand conference was participated by 122 representatives from 30 different countries.
For the first time, World Hindi Day or International Hindi day was observed in foreign countries in the year 2006 by then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh with the objective of promoting the Hindi Language all over the world. However, the day was celebrated in India from the year 2003.
SIGNIFICANCE:
The language Hindi has a high value in India and is considered as the mother language therefore on this day of World Hindi Day the entire world gives a little more attention to India's simplest source of expression i.e. Hindi language. It is the most widely spoken language in India that is preferred by the majority of people.
The term Hindi actually comes from the Persian word 'Hind' the meaning of which is 'the land of Indus.' The Hindi language is the heritage of the country and it is not only spoken in India but also in other countries like Nepal, Fiji, Tobago, Guyana, Mauritius, Trinidad and Suriname.
