NEW DELHI: Writer Javed Akhtar was heavily slammed by netizens for tweeting out his views on the arrest of AAP councillor Tahir Hussain. An FIR has been filed against Hussain after a complaint was filed by father of Ankit Sharma. Ankit who used to work for the Intelligence Bureau was killed by rioters and his body was recovered from a drain near his house.

Akhtar had tweeted, "So many killed , so many injured , so many house burned , so many shops looted so many people turned destitutes but police has sealed only one house and looking for his owner . Incidentally his name is Tahir . Hats off to the consistency of the Delhi police ."

He again sent out a clarifying tweet.

Hussain has denied the allegations.

He said, "I came to know from news reports that I am being blamed for the murder of a man. These are lies and baseless accusations. For our safety, my family and I had moved away from our home on Monday in police presence."

According to latest media reports, 38 people have died so far in violence in Delhi.

A few days ago, sporadic incidents of stone-pelting between anti and pro-CAA groups at Maujpur in east Delhi broke a relative lull in tension over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act. The police fired teargas shells. The tension erupted after a pro-CAA rally in the area was stoned by a group of anti-CAA protesters. Following stone-pelting by both groups, the police stepped in to disperse the two groups.

Metro stations have been shut down in the area as a precautionary measure. Metro rail stations that have been shut down include the Maujpur-Babarpur and the Seelampur metro station, adding to the overall congestion and chaos prevailing in the area. More security forces are being directed to the spot from other areas including nearby Jaffrabad.
