BENGALURU: Google, the California-based tech giant, inaugurated 'Ananta,' one of its largest offices globally, at Mahadevapura on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The 1.6-million-square-foot facility was built by Bagmane Tech Park over six years and customized for Google in an additional 11 months.
Google’s new office can fit over 5,000 employees, increasing its presence in India. The company already has around 10,000 workers in the country, making India one of its biggest employee bases outside the United States.
The opening of Ananta shows Google's strong commitment to India and its goal to create solutions for both local and global users. At the event, Anand Rangarajan, Vice-President of Product at Google DeepMind, spoke about India's fast technological growth and how Google supports innovation through research, development, and partnerships.
Rangarajan said that India is important to Google, not only for offering products in many local languages but also for improving them with Indian creativity. He added that Ananta will help create top-quality products, build stronger partnerships, and solve tough problems for millions of users and businesses in India and around the world.
The new facility is expected to house teams from various Google divisions, including Android, Search, Play, Pay, Cloud, Maps, and Google DeepMind.
Preeti Lobana, Google's Country Manager and Vice-President for India, described India as a strategic nerve center for the company. "India continues to be the beating heart of the global tech discourse, as seen through its thriving startup and app ecosystems and transformative digital public infrastructure," she said.
Google, which recently marked 20 years in India, has contributed to the nation's technological transformation through initiatives such as AI-powered flood forecasting, specialized AI models for early tuberculosis detection, and Google Pay, which has helped millions of people access the formal economy.
