MUMBAI: Reliance Jio has launched JioTele OS, a new operating system for smart TVs. In a post on X, the company stated, "JioTele OS - A next-gen Smart TV Operating System designed for India, Crafted in India" and shared some important features of the software.
Joining the AI trend, Reliance Jio claims that JioTele OS will provide AI-driven recommendations to help users discover content they might be interested in. The company did not clarify if the recommendations will be based on user’s watch history or show currently trending movies and TV shows. The operating system also promises "smooth, lag-free, 4K streaming."
JioTele OS will offer access to popular OTT platforms like Amazon Prime and Netflix, along with regular TV channels, and will aggregate both regional and global content. More details about content collection are not shared yet. The operating system is also expected to support cloud-based gaming, which can be played with the provided remote control.
Reliance Jio has assured timely OS updates and security patches but has not specified how many years of support these smart TVs will receive. Smart TVs running JioTele OS will be available starting February 21. Customers will have the option to choose models from various brands, including Kodak, JVC, BPL, and Thomson, with more models expected to launch in the coming months.
