GUWAHATI, Sept 30: 3 Star, Nepal lifted the 64th Bordoloi trophy soccer title defeating East Bengal in a well contested fil held at the Nehru stadium here today. The fate of the game was decided in the extra time and Nepal outfit won the title by 2-1.
After the barren first half, East Bengal took the lead in the 84th minutes through Adileja. 3 Star returned the goal one minute before the fil whistle which was scored by Devendra Tamang. The visitors scored the winning goal in the 99th minutes through Bimal Gharti Magor.
There was good turnout in today’s game. Even many supporters of East Bengal club travelled to Guwahati to witness the match which was held under floodlight. Both the sides made cautious start in the game and tried to depend on counter attack to break the opponent defense. East Bengal showed little bit of urgency in the dying stage of the first half and earned two back to back corners and both the occasions East Bengal failed to convert those opportunities into goal.
There was no change in the story in the second half also. 3 Star looked slightly aggressive and took few shots from long distance but those shots didn’t create too much problem to East Bengal goalkeeper Dibyendu Sarkar.
East Bengal took the lead in the 84th minutes and it was the result of brilliant attack. Jiten Murmu made a good work in the right wing and made a nice shot which was headed in by Adileja. It looked like that East Bengal were heading for the victory when 3 Star scored the equalizer. It was a good game for East Bengal’s goalkeeper Dibyandu but this time he made a small mistake which allowed 3 Star to score the equalizer. Nepal team got a free kick and the ball had gone straight to Dibyendu but he fumbled. Devendra Tamang gently pushed the ball in.
Bimal Gharti Magor scored the winning goal for 3 Star in the 99th minutes converting a defensive lapse.
Winner 3 Star team received cash award of Rs 10,00,000 while East Bengal collected a purse of Rs 5,00,000. On the other hand Bimal Gharti Magor (3 Star) received the best player of the fil award, both ASJA and GSA, of the meet. Calum James Angus of East Bengal received the best player award of the tourment. Dibyendu Sarkar (East Bengal) adjudged as the best goalkpper of the tourment while highest scorer award was shared by Adileja and Martin (3 Star).Both scored four goals in the competition.
