63rd Wildlife Week observed at Udalguri

TANGLA, Oct 5: The 63rd Wildlife Week was observed with a day-long programme at Sahariapara village near Bordi Wildlife Sanctuary of Udalguri on Wednesday. The programme was organized by Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri at Swahid Adarsha ME school. An awareness meeting was also held on the occasion which was chaired by DFO M.K Sarma. Manohar Sitala, teacher of the school, in his introductory speech explaining the need for conservation of flora and fau in the bio diversity-rich district.

Speaking on the occasion, DFO Sarma spoke about conservation of biodiversity of Bordi Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to the critically endangered pygmy hog, leopard, wild elephants, peacock and hornbill. He exhorted the students and teachers to plant as many trees as possible so as to provide shelter to small animals and birds.

The meeting was also addressed by wildlife activist Jayanta Das, Range Officer of Khalingduar Reserve Forest, Satya Boro; Range Officer of Bordi Wildlife Sanctuary, NC Thakuria and Headmaster of Swahid Adarsha ME School, Khagen Saharia. An interactive session was also held where wildlife experts apprised students on many topics of wildlife conservation and prevailing folklores among rural communities causing mece to some animals and birds. An on-the spot drawing competition was also held among the students.
