Agartala, Nov 16:  Tripura Fince Minister Bhanu Lal Saha stated that the 9 Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) in Tripura are incurring a loss of Rs 151 crore every year.

He also alleged that many development projects are suffering due to shortage of funds.

This was informed by Fince Minister Bhanu Lal Saha recently to the State Assembly while replying to a question raised by MLA Ashish Kumar Saha, stating that the nine PSU’s have incurred a loss of Rs 453.41 crore in three years during 2013-14 and 2015-16.

The minister also submitted a detailed report of the loss being incurred by each of the PSUs. However, in the written reply he did not cited any reason for the miserable condition of the PSU’s, which earlier was either making profit or running on no loss no profit basis.

Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited topped the list among the PSUs with a loss of Rs 183 crore in three years. Though making loss this corporation is rendering some service to the people but all other PSU’s are hardly serving any purpose despite the government is pumping in huge sum of money to keep them alive.

The only medium scale industry of the State, Tripura Jute Mills Limited that remained handicapped since its birth in 1979, has incurred a loss or Rs 54.70 crore in the last three years.

Once considered to be the lifeline of Tripura’s communication system and a profit making organization till 1978, the Tripura Road Transport Corporation has incurred a loss of Rs 44.42 crore during this period as people hardly ever see the red buses ply on the road.

Among other PSU’s, Tripura Rehabilitation Plantation Corporation Limited incurred a loss of Rs 1.27 crore, Tripura Handloom and Handicrafts Development  Corporation Limited Rs 30.14 crore, Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited Rs 6.90 crore, Tripura Industrial Development Corporation Limited 20.87 crore and Tripura Small Industries Development Corporation Limited Rs 10.67 crore.
