AAPSU says no to PPEM

 Itagar, February 18: The All Aruchal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) while opposing installation of pre-paid energy meters (PPEM) in the state capital has demanded the state government to immediately put a halt on the process keeping in view the public outcries.

 Union’s president Kamta Lapung accompanied by a few AAPSU members submitted a two-point memorandum to Chief Minister bam Tuki demanding him immediate withdrawal of the PPEM from the capital, a press release informed here today.

 The chief minister assured to place the issue in the next cabinet meeting, the release said.

 The AAPSU asked the government to me the Jote Law College in memory of former chief minister Jarbom Gamlin, who was a former president of the union and an academician with a law degree as well.

 The union said that it would be befitting to me the only law college in the state in his me as a tribute to a dymic leader of the state. The CM after a long debate assured to do so.

 Lapung also met the chief secretary and raised concern over the cabinet resolution to issue PRC/ST to the Lisu and Yobin.

 He apprised the CS that the union had been opposing issue of PRC/ST to persons other then the indigenous people of the state and would never compromise on it.

 The union also questioned the government as to how the decision was taken without verification.

 “The state government had constituted a joint high power committee in which AAPSU was also a member of joint high power committee. Therefore, without the recommendation of the JHPC how the government has taken its decision. Moreover, Vijaygar, the place where Lisu and Yobin reside is also inhabited by a large population of non-APST as well,” Lapung pointed out.

 “We urged the state government that proper study of the ground level should be made so that this decision does not harm the existing .indigenous population of the state. APPSU also raised concern that this may again lead to demand from other sections of the refuge residing in the state to issue PRC/ST like Chankma and Hajong and so we will never accept this cabinet decision without proper study,” he added while threatening to launch democratic protest.
