Silchar, June 15: Like every year, members of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) felicitated students who have successfully secured position in the merit list of the board examitions whose results were recently declared. The felicitation programme was held at Gandhi Bhawan of this town on last Monday. Students who passed with flying colours were felicitated so that they can scale new heights. The programme was presided over by Pradip Dutta Roy, who is the founder president of ACKHSA. Dr Dilip Chandra th, Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar said that both teachers and students should contribute towards the making or setting up of a suitable environment for teaching as well as learning.
“There are careers and professions other than doctors and engineers. Students should try to clear Civil Service Examitions. Why pupils are not clearing IAS and other related examitions? They have to be self-confident and should not depend only on private tuitions. Mere passing of examitions is not enough. One has to contribute towards the development of the society,” said Dr Dilip Chandra th. Dr Dilip Chandra th further said that it is very essential for both the teacher and the student to build a relation so that students can learn without any hesitation.
Dr Dilip Chandra th regretted saying that a very few number of students read books now and one of the major cause behind this apathy towards book reading is social media which has made them addicted. ACKHSA has been demanding reservation for the local scholars. Dr th added that since it is a central University, there are certain rules and regulations and one should abide by it. Interested scholars should apply and follow the routine procedure. Rupam ndi Purkayastha, advisor, ACKHSA, said, “It has been seen that teachers at the Varsity do not take classes and join Associations, Unions and Bodies. I would request that something should be done about the 40% reservation of seats in the University. Students of Barak Valley should get first priority and preference.” Doita Pushpa Swami, Soumik Dey, Bishwarup Laskar from Science stream and Pankaj Kumar Saha from Commerce at Higher Secondary were felicitated for securing position.
