SHILLONG, Jan 16: The Syiemlieh Clan (Sawkpoh Maharam) of South West Khasi Hills district, Mawkyrwat under Hima Maharam Syiemship has demanded the removal of their Syiem, Niandro Syiemiong for misuse of the clan funds and lands.
“We urge the District Council to take this matter seriously and to remove or suspend the Syiem and appoint an acting Syiem in his place for all the misdeeds he has done,” Phanles Syiemlieh, Joint Secretary of the Syiemlieh (Sawkpoh Maharam) clan told media persons here on Monday.
Informing that the clan has also filed a complaint against the Syiemiong via Executive Member, in charge, Elaka , Administration of the KHADC last year in the month of June, he further informed that the clan also filed an RTI at the office of the of Hima Maharam which revealed rampant misuse of funds and lands by Syiemiong.
“As per the RTI findings the Hima Maharam under Syiemiong has never paid the full 1/8 share to the KHADC and instead used to send a letter to the EC of the Council to exempt it to pay for the same,” Phanles informed.
He however said after going through that the audit report of the Hima it show otherwise where the Syiem had claimed that for the year 2007-2008 he had paid the 1/8 share to the council toned to an amount of Rs 79, 576, an amount of Rs 70, 900, 00, for 2008-2009, Rs 68,200.00 for the year 2009- 2010, an amount of Rs 81, 526.00 for 2010-2011.
Informing that the office of the Hima under this Syiem has also fail to provide the audit report of the Hima every year beside forcefully removing the ‘Lyngdoh’ and ‘Basan’ under Lyngdoh Khain Nongsynrieh,Sakwang and Riwar, Phanles said that the Syiem is also engaged in giving away of the lands to the state government without the knowledge of the Office of this Hima Maharam and the Dorbar Pyllun of the Hima as a whole.
“Niandro Syiemiong also gave away a portion of a land belonging to the Hima located at Panchiring to the Irrigation Department of the state government as a Gift deed on July 31st 2010 and the agreement paper also contain his sigture and the government officials,” he said adding that the RTI shows that the Syiem had also sold many lands claiming them to belong to the Hima when actually these lands belongs to the Syiemlieh Clan and Hima Maharam.
