Jorhat, April 27:  Following the Chief Minister’s order for inspection, Additiol Director General of Assam Police (Border) AK Sinha Kashyap on Monday took stock of the situation at Rongham and its adjoining areas along the Assam-galand border in Jorhat district.

The Chief Minister had ordered police to monitor the situation from close quarters as several incidents of encroachment were taking place in Rongham and many other bordering areas of Jorhat district since February this year.

The ADGP was accompanied by senior police officials of Jorhat district who said that the situation was now normal in the areas concerned. Jorhat Superintendant of Police Amanjeet Kaur said that no fresh incident had taken place in the areas in the last few days and the required number of security personnel had been deployed.

However, expecting more attention from the officials of the State Government, some villagers of Rongham alleged that the government’s response was not adequate to prevent encroachment in the reserve forests like Tiru Hills and its adjoining areas.

Mariyani MLA Roopjyoti Kurmi on Monday demanded adequate action against the ga encroachers as soon as possible to safeguard the interest of the State.
