Aruchal Governor convenes security review meeting

ITAGAR, May 11: Governor J P Rajkhowa on Tuesday chaired a high-level security meeting at Raj Bhavan to review the overall security scerio of the state, law & order and insurgency related issues.

Reviewing the security arrangement at the Capital Complex as also elsewhere in the state, the governor advised the state government to evolve suitable mechanism involving general public, the civil society and security forces to address any major law and order incident.

He suggested for augmentation of state intelligence apparatus for collection, collation and communication of real time intelligence in order to have regular and timely feedback of any unlawful activities, an official report said here today.

Expressing his concern on recent incident of firing at Tawang and arrest of militants in eastern district of Longding, Rajkhowa called for foolproof security arrangement in the state.

He also appreciated the timely actions taken by the government for defusing the tension and maintaining the public peace and order post the May 2 firing incident.

He expressed the view that the magisterial and commissioner level enquiry committees should conduct through inquiry into the happenings that ultimately led to the unfortute firing incident costing precious lives and injuring several persons, in a free, fair and independent manner.

A timeline should also be drawn for completion of the enquiry and submission to the Government of Aruchal Pradesh with findings and recommendations for preventing such incidents in future and also fix responsibilities. He also emphasized on restoring normalcy in Tawang and adjacent districts for ebling the people to have normal activities at the earliest.

The governor appealed to the people generally and the spiritual leaders, the public leaders, the youth to cooperate with the administration to maintain public peace and tranquillity and restore the earlier status of Tawang as the most peaceful district in the country.

He appreciated the immediate visit of Deputy Chief Minister & Home Minister Kameng Dolo to Tawang.

Participating in the discussion, Chief Minister Kalikho Pul said that security of every citizen of the state has always been the top priority of the government and he is persolly monitoring it. He further informed that the government would not tolerate any unlawful activities in the state and firmly deal with it as per law.

The chief minister also informed that he would be persolly assessing the situation by visiting Tawang on May 11 next.

Earlier, Dolo and the senior officers, briefed the governor on various security issues. Both Pul and Dolo informed that all the vacant posts in police department would be filled up on priority basis, the report added.
