Itagar, Jun 25: Chief Secretary Shakuntala Doley Gamlin has assured all possible assistance to make the Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) at Old Ziro in Lower Subansiri district operatiol soon.
The assurance came after Gamlin on Friday visited Ziro valley where she inspected the ALG, an official release informed here today.
Stating that an intertiol airport would cater to the long felt need for marketing the horticultural products of Ziro like kiwis and orchids which are in huge demand in the intertiol market, the chief secretary added that it would create a vibrant economy and uplift the economic status of the people.
A keen agriculturist herself, Gamlin also visited the kiwi gardens and floricultural centers and interacted with the farmers.
“Ziro is a blessed place with the right mix of topography and climatic conditions. Floriculture and organic cultivation can be carried out in a large scale,” she said encouraging and assuring the kiwi farmers to provide marketing linkages.
Gamlin also felt the need to encourage the small farmers as well for a more vibrant economy and stated that a unified effort from all stakeholders alone can propel our economy forward.
On being apprised by DC Kemo Lollen regarding the need for a cold storage, the chief secretary assured to look into the matter.
Later while visiting the traditiol Lapang at Hari village and in view of Ziro being listed in the tentative list of world heritage site, Gamlin suggested for constructing houses in the old traditiol forms although using modern materials.
She however directed the district administration to strictly follow the building guidelines and prohibit high rising buildings in the area.
The chief secretary also visited Petchu Putu, the site for Ziro Music Festival where she suggested for more landscaping and putting up signs boards at public places, carrying messages to respect these places. “We have to make a choice as to how our children inherit our place,” she added.
