Awami League leader hacked to death in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Oct 19: A leader of the Jata League, a front organisation of the ruling Awami League in Bangladesh, succumbed early on Wednesday to injuries sustained in a deadly attack the previous night, media reported. Sheikh Swadhin Monir, President of Fatulla Awami Jata League, was attacked near his house in Fatulla upazila of rayanganj on Tuesday night, Dhaka Tribune reported. Monir’s nephew Ashraf Hossain said: “My uncle had a feud with local Swechchhasebok League leader Mir Hossain Miru relating to the business of cable connection in the area.”

“Miru’s supporters stabbed my uncle and two aunts while they were returning home from a relative’s house on Tuesday night.”

The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where Monir succumbed to his injuries. DMCH police outpost SI Bachchu Mia said: “Monir died at the hospital around 6.00 a.m. today.” (IANS)
