Dibrugarh, Sept 25: The 48th tiol Service Scheme (NSS) Day was celebrated under the aegis of Digboi College in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club on September 22.
The programme started with the hoisting of flag and arranging a special talk on the topic ‘Substance Abuse in Adolescence, Impact on Health and ways for prevention’. Vice-Principal of Digboi College, Kedar th Timsi iugurated the programme, which followed by Assistant Professor of the college, Dr Rasmi Pathowary’s speech on the theme. Chief Medical Officer, IOCL (AOD) Digboi, Dr. Bhanu Hazarika was the resource person.
Dr Hazika spoke about substance abuse during the adolescence period, the effects within the person who consumes such items and the effects on the society as a whole. Such habits, Dr. Hazarika claimed, made drug abusers addictive and slowly substance abuse gets beyond the abuser’s control. He also highlighted how it could be prevented and concluded with a motivatiol video presentation. It was also an interactive one, where many questions were answered by the resource person.
Programme officer of the NSS unit of the college Rajib Rudra Tariang in his speech urged upon the students with an oath, not to indulge in such drug abuse in their life and to set an example which would motivate others to avoid it with strong will power , a press release of Digboi College issued here stated.
