Awareness campaign against human trafficking

Tezpur, April 16: Marathon race, as a campaign against human trafficking, was held on Sunday on the occasion of Rongali Bihu.  The programme was organized by the members of Auxilium Troncatti Home, Solabasti, Tezpur, Sonitpur. Pankaj Duwara, the welfare manager of Sonabheel TE was the chief guest. Other distinguished guests present were Sr Mary Edattukaran, the superior of Auxilium Troncatti Home and Fr. Roshan Kujur SVD and the leaders of the three villages (Malijan Bokajan and Sonaobheel). The chief guest and the other distinguished guests were felicitated with a phulan gamosa. A total of 50 youth participated in the race. It was started at 5.30 am. from Malijan football ground to Sonabheel football ground. The three winners, Biskel Horo, Prakash Kerketta, Paulus Bage received cash prize of Rs 2000, 1500 and 1000 respectively. The programme was supported by various people like Manager of Sonabheel TE, Gill, who was glad to provide water tank, first aid and cash for the prize. Fr Clement Ekka, the Parish priest of Tezpur provided with cash for the prizes.
The chief guest, Pankaj, appreciated the sisters for carrying out social activities and most especially working hard to eliminate human trafficking in the area. He was happy to witness the efforts of the sisters to eradicate human trafficking by creating awareness. He said that human trafficking is chronic like an epidemic in the area. Congratulating the participants and the winners, he exhorted them to love sports and also to become an agent of change in the society. In addition to that Rev. Fr. Roshan Kujur SVD threw lights on the recent Jammu and Kashmir rape incident.
