Awareness meeting on artificial insemition held

KOKRAJHAR, November 4: An awareness meeting on artificial insemition and calf rally was organized by the Veteriry Officer and Key Village Centre under the sponsorship of Intensive Cattle Development Project (ICDP) at Balajan, Debargaon in Kokrajhar on Wednesday. The awareness meeting on artificial insemition was iugurated by BTC EM of Veteriry department, Shyam Sundi.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the meeting, Sundi said the department had taken up welfare projects for the people and Self-Help Groups (SHG) who were involved in the rearing and farming of cattle and other domestic animals. He said the council had decided to set up model dairy farm for increasing the productivity of milk to meet the requirement and for fincial assistance to the SHGs who were running piggery, duck, poultry and cattle farms to sustain their living. He called upon the farmers to concentrate on commercial point of view for rural economic development that could provide altertive livelihood for the rural people. He also ensured that the department would facilitate treatment and medicines, besides extending monetary assistants for the genuine farm owners and SHGs.

BTC secretary of Veteriry, Rahila Brahma said the department was very important for the rural populace through which the villagers could mage their livelihood. She said the annual allocation of fund for the veteriry should be increased to implement farmer-friendly projects in the region but the department had been receiving stumpy fund.

The keynote address in the awareness meeting was given by the In-charge of ICDP, Kokrajhar Dr JP Das and was also attended by the Council Head of the Department (CHD), Veteriry, Dr Dilip Kr. Bhuyan, OSD Prakash Karmakar, Sub Divisiol Veteriry Officer (SDVO), Gossaigaon, Dr. Bibhuti Hazoary and District Veteriry Officer, Kokrajhar, PK Kalita. Free medicines were distributed and vaccition was also done on the occasion.
