Bad road conditions affecting life

Silchar, Sept 1: Showers of rain may have brought relief for the residents of the town as extreme hot and sultry weather made life miserable for past few days, but the condition of the road has deteriorated to a huge extent. It has become extremely difficult for vehicle riders, commuters and pedestrians to use the streets. A few days of rain have worsened the condition of a number of streets and by-lanes. It has, unfortutely, becomes a regular occurrence and there seems no solution to this problem. By-lanes get either submerged in deep water or muddier or slushy. Patients, employees and students along with other residents find it hard to move without any trouble.  It is not a new problem for the residents of Silchar. People residing in Chengcoorie Road, College Road, Soi Road, Link Road, Das Colony, Ambicapatty, Shillongpatty and Rongpur are spending days waiting for change to come. Despite staging a number of agitations, protests and strikes, no change has been seen so far. It seems, all pleas have fallen into deaf ears. The government and the authorities concerned are not paying any heed to it. The problem looms large as rain forces more slippery and muddy roads which make it extremely risky for people to drive or walk freely.  Though, it is the responsibility of the both Silchar Municipal Board and Town and Country Planning department to probe further into the matter and solve it once for all, yet, solution appears to be a distant dream for the people. It is high time that people should raise voice against this issue otherwise; a little shower of rain may continue to deteriorate roads and cause mini-floods. There are large potholes on the streets and it gets filled with rain water. If proper action is not taken immediately, the situation may gradually worsen.
