BILASIPARA, November 12: The birth centery of Lakshyadhar Choudhury ,famous litterateur, poet, dramatist, educationist, film director, actor, freedom fighter, former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha and former education minister of Assam, was observed at Bilasipara in the premises of Bilasipara Sub-Divisiol Public Library under the aegis of the library committee.
In this connection in the morning the portrait of Choudhury was garlanded by Noor Mohammad, the secretary of Bilasipara Senior Citizen’ Forum, followed by lighting of ceremonial lamp by Azad Sarker. Thereafter, a public meeting was held with noted artiste of Goalpariya folk song Abdul Karim Khan in the chair. Senior jourlist Dayal Paul, while talking about the life and works of Choudhury, laid emphasis on his political activities, especially his contribution in the field of education.
The librarian, Dr Haricharan Das, while addressing the meeting, explained his persol contact with Choudhury while he was the sub-editor of Asomiya Pratidin. Social activist Azad Sarker, while addressing the meeting, spoke about the contribution of Choudhury to Bilasipara. Noor Mohammd and Manoj Deka also spoke about the versatile persolity of Choudhury. Dr Anjanjyoti Choudhury, the second son of Choudhury, addressed the meeting over telephone. He concluded his speech by singing a self-composed song.
The Library Committee has decided to publish a booklet in memory of Choudhury to be released during his next birth anniversary. Among others, the meeting was attended by famous artist and pensioner Prab Das and reputed poet Dhanjay Singha.
