Dhubri, Dec 29: The Simanta Prahari Promotha th Chakraborty Samanya Kshetra in Dhubri turned into a melting pot of all sections of people irrespective of caste, creed and religion on the concluding day of the three-day centery celebration of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) on Wednesday. In the morning, a long and colorful procession with tableaus and cultural dances by different communities led by Xabha president Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bora was taken out, which passed through the main streets of Dhubri town.
Speaking in the open session of centery celebration of Xabha, winner of Sahitya Akademi Award and professor of Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Dr HS Shivprakash spoke at a length as the specially invited guest, on the literary works of Kerala and Kartaka and Assam, and opined that all literary works and cultural fabrics should be exchanged with Assam and vice-versa.
“We know little about Srimanta Sankardev and you too know little about our great men of various fields, literary works and culture. So Xabha should make an effort to bridge this gap, which will in true term make our tion great,” Dr. Shivprakash said.
While addressing the open session, another specially invited guest, former Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Dr. Pabitra Sarkar said he was overwhelmed to see the stream of people coming to participate in the literary event. “I have never seen such a huge congregation of people elsewhere in my life that is driven by love towards the mother language. Let the Assamese language celebrate centery after centery in the years to come,” Dr. Sarkar said.
A voluminous souvenir brought out on the occasion of centery celebration of Xabha, was formally released by deputy chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary. Kampa and Rajya Sabha MP, Biswajit Daimary attended the open session at the instance of BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, who could not attend the session due to his busy schedules.
Both Kampa Borgoyary and Biswajit Daimary, while addressing the session, called upon the Xabha to build a greater Assam with its rich languages, varied cultural ethos and age-old traditions, which would make this land free of all hatred. Many books and literary works by organizations including Jikir Jari by Abubakkar Siddique and Gadadhar by Gadadhar Dhuburi Zila Kabi Chakra, were also released in the session.
A senior police officer and an artist, Dr. Shyamal Saikia iugurated the Padamashri Pratima Barua Pandey cultural evening, wherein a huge crowd came to hear the melodious voice of singer hid Afrin. She enthralled the audience for over three hours.
A book fair was also held for three days near the Xabha Kshetra in the proposed Dhubri Judicial building, which was iugurated by Dhubri Superintendent of Police Longnit Terang. However, most of the dignitaries invited to the open session, including Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, State Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary did not attend.
