GUWAHATI, Dec 4: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the State Government would extend all possible help in every aspects, including security, to make next South Asian Games a success.
Chairing an Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Coordition meeting at NEDFi House here today Gogoi said that the State Government will leave no stone unturned for making this sporting event a grand success. The meeting was convened to assess and discuss the preparedness for the event which will be hosted jointly by Guwahati and Shillong from February 6
In a brief speech Gogoi said, “Sports can play an important role in spreading camaraderie and forge friendly relations with different countries.” He also directed the concerned officials to hold weekly review meeting to assess the preparedness of the event.
Union Sports Minister Sarbanda Sonowal while sharing his thoughts said that the sporting event, which will see assembly of nearly 4400 athletes, will put North East in the map of intertiol tourism and sports.
It will be the 12th edition of the South Asian Games and will have 23 events of which 16 will be held in Guwahati and six in Shillong. On the other hand there will 11 venues in Guwahati and 6 in Shillong. Eight countries will be participating in the event.
State Sports Minister Ajit Singh, IOA President N. Ramachandran, Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, Joint Secretary S. N. Bali, Secretary Sports Government of India Rajiv Yadav, Chief Secretary in charge TY Das, Director General of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay, Additiol Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister MGVK Bhanu along with a host of other top officers were present at the meeting.
