SHILLONG, Sept 27: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma made it categorically clear that Songsak constituency of East Garo Hills district will be the other legislative segment that he will be vying in the 2018 elections.
Speaking exclusively to The Sentinel on Wednesday, Sangma said, “I must say that I am about to give a positive filization of my decision to contest from Songsak after generating a substantial interest amongst the electorates”.
“This positive hint has already been echoed to the senior functiories based on the calculations that I have made,” Sangma added.
Sangma is a sitting MLA of Ampati constituency located in South West Garo Hills and his desire to contest from another seat held by the two time sitting tiolist People’s Party (NPP) has generated speculations, especially when his tive constituency is safer enough.
Asked on this, Sangma said, “These are political strategies that are not shared with the media. All political moves are taken after due diligence to achieve the right remunerative political income,” stated Sangma even as he refered to the Songsak constituency as the present focal point of building the Congress party efforts to gain the 24 seats in the five district of Garo Hills.
On the Congress party being on a downslide as evident from the outcome of the last District Council elections in Garo Hills and the latest desertion of MLAs, the Chief Minister maintained that it is a perception and in the political battle the Congress party has always bounced back to serve the people.
With Assembly elections round the corner, the Chief Minister said, “Every election is a tough elections, no election is ever a safe sailing exercise. Now we know what is on the ground and how to take them on in the political battle field.”
On the exit of at least five sitting legislators from the Congress party, the Chief Minister alluded to the dymics of politics.
“I can clearly tell you that the Congress party’s doors are always open for everyone—one to walk in and to walk out,” the Chief Minister said.
