'Community-based tourism will lead to growth of tourism'

Dibrugarh, Dec 26: Dibrugarh has a great scope for community-based tourism, said Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri while speaking at the ongoing 10-day intertiol workshop on community-based tourism, at DHSK Kanoi College. Saying that community-based tourism would lead to the growth of tourism in different interiors of the district, Madduri added that such a move would also give employment to the unemployed youth of the region.

Addressing the gathering, she said that Dibrugarh had many such places that were rich in tural resources, and as such, had a huge potential in terms of tourism. Madduri also urged the young trainees who were receiving training on tourism in the workshop to use their skills to help grow community-based tourism in the district. She further said that Assam’s culture, language, tradition, arts and crafts had enough potential to emerge as major tourist attractions, and added that the workshop would discuss ways to turn the possibility into a reality.
