Concern over alarming increase in drug abuse

SILCHAR, May 16: The increase in number of drug addicts has created a lot of concerns for the residents of Barak Valley. There has been a considerable increase in the number of drug peddlers and drug addicts. The younger generations are falling prey to this. “In this regard, since August 2015, we have been able to b 70 accused. But we need concrete information so that we can free the Valley off this evil,” said Rajbeer Singh, Superintendent of Police, Cachar district in a press-meet held in the office of the DC here today.

“At the time of arresting Dipu, we strongly believed that he was under the influence of drugs. Whoever is arrested, we have to provide them with a little amount of drug so that they can live. We are bound otherwise they may die,” Rajbeer Singh added. Mohit Ahemd Barlaskar, 41, alias Dipu, had been arrested from his house at Majargram, in the Rongpur drug case. The police have requested every educatiol institute, NGOs, health centres, individuals from all walks of life to inform and report any case related to drug peddling or drug addiction. Assuring a quick response, Singh said, “If we find any trace or any report about drugs business or addiction, we will pounce upon it. I have also updated the Officers-in-charge and In-charges of the various police stations.”
