TANGLA, Nov 5: Synchronizing with the tionwide observation of Vigilance Week, the Tangla College faculty in association with the IQAC cell of the college, organized an awareness programme titled ‘Public Participation in promoting Integrity and Eradicating Corruption’ at the conference hall of the college.
The programme was presided over by Prabha Baruah, Head of the Department of Education.
Rabindra Kumar Sarmah, Head of the Department of English, graced the event as resource person. Speaking on the occasion, Sarmah said, “Corruption is a crime more heinous than all other social crimes. History has witnessed French Revolution in the year 1789 due to prevailing corruption in those days in France.”
He further said, “Non-violence means we need to combat the mece of corruption by making the people aware.” He also stressed the need for eradicating corruption at individual level.
He also administered the vigilance pledge to all the students and staff of the college.
The purpose of the meeting was earlier conveyed by Dr. Satyendra Sarmah.
Mintu Pathak, Head of the Department of Politics, said that to eradicate corruption it was important to be aware of rights as an individual-level approach was needed. He also quoted the life stories of Hazrat Mohammed to the students. “Corruption has turned into a culture. We should uphold moral values only then corruption can be eradicated. Someone needs to be the whistleblower. We are responsible for today’s scerio of corruption as we have given space to corruption. We should take a stand on moral ethics at an individual level,” he said. The resource persons also stressed RTI as a legal tool of the common citizens to whistle blow corruption. An interactive session was also held where the queries of the students related to corruption where discussed.
The programme, which was initiated earlier by a chorus as tribute to Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his death anniversary by the students of the Department of Assamese, was attended by a large number of students of the college.
