Damaged electric pole claims one life

Silchar, April 12: In a most unfortute incident, S Haridas Singh, in his mid seventies, lost his life succumbing to severe injuries when a damaged electric pole fell upon him after it was hit by a tripper bearing No AS 17 – 9854 at Binkandi Part – I. The pillar was lying useless and was kept erected for supporting another new electric pole. S Haridas Singh lost his life on the way to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The fully loaded tripper belongs to Gautam Constructions. Gautam Constructions has been given the contract of building PWD road at Binkandi Part – I.

SDPO Gaurav Kumar Aggarwal, office in-charge Inspector Anwar Hussain Choudhury and ASI P J Singha of Lakhipur PS rushed to the spot. People have urged upon the government to provide for some compensation for the bereaved family members of the victim. S Haridas Singh, a widower, is survived by his only son. His wife had passed away a few months ago. The incident, grim in ture, reflects the negligence on the part of the electricity board.
