Haflong, May 9: Several organizations like Jadikhe Naisho Hoshom (JNH), Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU), All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU) and Dimasa Mother’s Association (DMA) submitted a memorandum to the chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Camp Silchar, Assam through the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao on Wednesday.
The memorandum stated that JNH, DSU, ADSU and DMA were fully in favour of implementing the Assam Accord in letter and spirit and wanted deportation of illegal migrants who settled in Assam after March 25, 1971.
At the same time, the organizations urged upon the government to properly inquire into the suspected wanderers who had come to Dima Hasao district after 1971, based on the Citizenship Act of 1965 as many suspicious migrants had been seen in the district till date. In view of the above, the organizations stressed maintaining peace and tranquillity amongst different communities living in Dima Hasao, by protecting life and property of the local tribes, besides their language and culture.
