Durga Puja festivity ends with Dasami

SIVASAGAR, October 11:  Sharadiya Durga Puja, the biggest annual festival of the Hindus, ended on Tuesday with the immersion of idols on Dasami, ending the five days of festivity.

Procession from respective Puja mandaps was taken out with the Durga idols till the Thamukh Ghat for immersion. Elaborate security arrangements were made by Sivasagar police for peaceful immersion of the idols. Besides police officials, personnel from civil defence and civic body officials assisted in the immersion process.

As many as 22 Durga Puja idols, including the idols of the historic Devi Dol, made their way to the banks of the River Dikhow for immersion.

Earlier, women smeared vermilion on each other’s faces in a ritual called sindoor khela and offered sweets and prayers to Goddess Durga.People of all ages exchanged greetings with each other on the occasion of ‘Bijoya’.
