JORHAT, May 3: At least five people, including one female, died of viral chicken pox disease while 13 others are undergoing treatment at the Duklangia Tea Estate, a tea estate owned by Andrew Will Co. of Mariani revenue circle under Mariani Police Station in Jorhat district, informed Dr. Amrit Saikia, Joint Director, Health and Family Welfare, on Wednesday.
According to sources, the deceased have been identified as Rashmi Murah (25), Sankhi Tanti (45), Alipon Bhumiz (35), Bishuwa Kurmi (70) and Pahilpon gbongshi (65). All five hail from Borline section of the Duklangia tea estate.
According to the Joint Director, Health and Family Welfare, a team from Jorhat Medical College and Hospital has arranged an awareness camp to prevent the spread of the disease as the people of that tea estate have been found to be orthodox and superstitious.
