MARGHERITA, August 3: Due to floods, villages like Longgaon, Nonglai, Roduva and Paanigaon in 124 No Margherita constituency have been devastated. Agricultural fields and properties have been destroyed. The Longgaon Buddhist Vihara has also been washed away in the recent flood due to rise in the water level of Buridehing River.

Flood-hit villagers have alleged that local MLA Bhaskar Sharma and Margherita district administration officials have not visited them and appear to be in deep slumber while people are suffering.

Local people of Longgaon alleged, “For many years we have been suffering from flood and soil erosion due to the increased water level of Buridehing River but Margherita administration does not hear our cries. Due to the increase of water level of Buridehing River, the connecting road between Nonglai and Panigaon has also been damaged and now the school has reopened but children cannot go to school because of the pathetic condition of the road.”

Local people have demanded that as the road falls under Inthem Gaon Panchayat, so it should be repaired as soon as possible.
