Flood situation improves in Goalpara district

Goalpara, Aug 20: As the water level is receding, the flood situation has improved in Goalpara district too. The second wave of flood that caused havoc in the State, seriously affected life and property in Goalpara too.

 According to the government report, 134 villages under three main revenue circles of the district have been badly hit. These revenue circles are Balija, Matia and Lakhipur. Under Balija 55 villages, under Lakhipur 59 and under Matia 20 villages have been inundated this time leading to the loss of life and property. The number of affected people under different circles are - in Balija 65,102 people, in Matia 45,568 and in Lakhipur 18,547.

 In the agriculture sector, thousands of hectares of crop area have been affected. Under Lakhipur revenue circle 1,726 hectares, Balija 1,200 hectares and Matia 1,254 hectares have been affected by flood.

 Meanwhile, water level of the river Brahmaputra is constantly receding from its danger point 36.27. The three tributaries Ziri, Dudhnoi and Krishi are also following the same path. A total of 28 medical teams have been deployed in the affected areas which have been brought under several zones. The district administration has already set up 31 relief camps where 3,982 inmates are taking shelter. About 2,500 persons were treated in the camps for different minor diseases. “All camps are running in good condition under the strict vigil of the district administration,” informed Banti Talukdar, Circle Officer-cum-in-charge of DIPRO.
