Flood situation improves in Gohpur, Sivasagar

Gohpur/Joysagar, July 12: The flood scerio in Gohpur has turned worse. Due to incessant rain last week, the rivers and tributaries coming from the Aruchal hills caused destructive flood in Gohpur subdivision.

Though the rain has stopped, yet the Brahmaputra is flowing over the danger and critical level in Gohpur. Many rivers and tributaries coming from the hills mingled with the Brahmaputra and the water has submerged the southern area of Gohpur subdivision. When Gohpur administration was busy in rescuing flood victims of Gohpur northern part, then an extermitory flood hit the southern part of Gohpur. Bakari Doloni, Gopal Jaroni, Dipara, Lohitmukh and Rawmukh in the southern part are under the grip of flood.

After completing rescue operation in northern area, Gohpur administration and SDRF moved to southern part to rescue the victims. Gohpur MLA Utpal Borah, SDO (civil) Dr.Indranoshee Das along with government officials rushed to the villages Lohitmukh, Pisala Xuonsiri and Dak- Sapori which are situated on the bank of the Brahmaputra. On the other hand, Inland Water Transport (IWT) department has provided two ferries for rescuing animals. The team of MLA and SDO (civil) distributed medicines, flood relief materials and packaged drinking water to the affected people.

There has been partial improvement in the flood situation in Sivasagar as the heavy rainfall had stopped since Tuesday night and obviously the water-level of the Brahmaputra and its adjoining rivers has come down from the danger level.

Besides, as per reports from Sivasagar District Water Resource Magement Department, the district administration has set up 16 relief camps in Amguri, Sivasagar and zira revenue circles respectively.  Till date, in Sivasagar district a total of 22,000 people and 2468.78 hectares of crop land have been damaged by the flood.

The most endangered river embankments are the embankment near oholia Gaon under zira RC, embankment near Mothiachiga and Mesagar Gohain Gaon under zira RC, embankment at mtial Garbhaga under Sivasagar RC, embankment at Pathalial near Bhatiapar of Dikhow River under Sivasagar RC, and embankment at No-2 Boliaghat Gaon near Dikhow River under Sivasagar RC. Moreover, due to flood, public roads submerged in flood water in Sivasagar are Bamunpukhuri PMGSY road to Amguri, Kirai Ali to Sivasagar Sadar, Charing College Road, Kharikatia Ali to zira, Kerimeri Garh Road in Gaurisagar GP to Sivasagar Sadar, Charing ga Ali to Jorhat and Sivasagar Sadar, Maankata Ali to Joysagar under Sivasagar RC and many other roads on  Sivasagar PWD and Municipal Area.

The road connectivity in Sivasagar district seems to be badly affected and for which there is urgent need for additiol fund for immediate repair and renovation of these roads. Besides, in the first flood of the monsoon season, three persons died due to flood in Sivasagar district. These persons were identified as Dipomjyoti Das (21) of Bhatibongaon of Sivasagar RC, Kusu Chaura (40) of Athabari Tea Estate of zira RC and Bishawapratim Marrar (28) of Maduri Jayabagan Tea Estate under Sivasagar RC.
