Freedom fighter Kirti Kalita passes away

Rangia, November 28: Kirti Kalita, freedom fighter and social activist, passed away in his residence at Rangia Tarani on Saturday. He was 90.

Kalita had taken part in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and was close to Gopith Bordoloi, Siddhi th Sarma, Lakhidhar Borah and other leaders of Assam. He was also a Congress worker. He was loved and respected by all. He leaves behind three sons and five daughters.

Anta Deka, BJP leader Rajib Sarma and various organizations have condoled the death of Kalita. Shops and business establishments at Tulsibari and Tarani remained closed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
