Gang of cattle smugglers held

JOYSAGAR, April 13: A gang of cattle smugglers were held by the police on Thursday from Konwarpur area of Sivasagar. As per information, Joysagar Police during routine checking seized a Bolero pick-up van (AS-04-Q-8786) in which three cows were being smuggled. When police interrogated the driver, he revealed about the illegal trade. Following the tip-off of the driver, police nabbed Nazim Ali and Ikrumul Ali from Karigaon, Konwarpur area.  Police investigation revealed that the cows belonged to Nava Baruah, Jintu Handique and Pranab Sarmah, local farmers of Konwarpur, and the smugglers had stolen the cows on Thursday night. Meanwhile, Sivasagar Police also apprehended three other cattle smugglers from Rajmai area near Sivasagar town on Thursday. Four cows and six goats were also recovered from their possession, sources revealed.
