Shillong, Jan 12: An over-ground cadre of GNLA was injured in an encounter between the militants and Meghalaya police at Nengsak in East Garo Hills. Police also recovered a body of a kidpped trader from the area. Following the IED blast at Williamgar on Saturday, the security forces have launched massive operations against GNLA militants in Garo Hills.

Police sources said a group of 7-10 heavily armed rebels led by a local commander identified as Pangap engaged in fierce gun battle with the security forces when the police launched search operation in the area.

Sources said police busted a hideout of GNLA after the encounter. Police on Monday arrested two persons who served as couriers of the outfit.

“During the fierce gun battle, one of the GNLA over-ground cadre sustained bullet injuries. The body of a ginger merchant was recovered when search operation was carried out in the abandon site. The merchant was kidpped in the first week of this month,” sources added.
