Chandigarh, June 9: With the renewed Jat protests seeking job quota not getting a good response from people, the Harya government is trying to convice Jat leaders to withdraw their agitation. Additiol Director General of Police Muhammad Akil told the media on Thursday that efforts were on to convince the people not to participate in the ‘dhars’ as it would cause inconvenience to the people. The renewed agitation started on June 5. The agitation call was given by a section of Jat leaders. “At present people are on dharans in 12 districts during day time but their number has reduced as compared to the first day. Similarly, the number of dhars at night has reduced to seven and their strength has also reduced significantly. We hope these dhars soon end,” Akil said. He said no incident of blockade of roads and railway tracks was reported from anywhere. At least nine of the 21 districts in Harya were put on high alert on Sunday as a section of the Jat community renewed its drive for reservation. The call has been given by the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS). The Jat community has served a 15-day ultimatum to the Harya government for implementation of reservation. The districts on high alert include Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonipat, Jind, Bhiwani, Hisar, Fatehabad, Panipat and Kaithal. Harya saw the worst violence in its five decades of existence in February during the Jat agitation for reservation. (IANS)
