Headmens' body condemns government move to introduce property tax

SHILLONG, Sept 11: The Executive Committee of Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hyniewtrep (SNSBH) in a meeting held earlier last week has condemned the proposed move of the Government through the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) to introduce the property tax as an Act in the state.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, R L Blah general Secteary SNSBH said, “The Synjuk strongly condemn and protest the proposed move by SMB becasue after much deliberation we have come to an understanding that this Act will turn all the landowners in the state into tents in their own lands.”

In this connection the Synjuk has urge upon local representatives to take a strong stand against the Action support of the decision of the Synjuk.

The Synjuk have also demanded that the state government should immediately put a halt in introducing the Act since the Synjuk has learned that this Bill will be discussed in the ongoing Assembly session.

“If the state government does not pay heed to the demands made by the Synjuk then we will be compelled to take other cource of action,” Blah said.

Meanwhile, with regards to the Village Administration Bill (VAB), the Synjuk has decided to meet the KHADC CEM P N Syiem and members of the Executive Committee (EC) in the coming days to discuss on the proposal of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on August 31, to recall the VAB.

“We need to understand the views and oppions of the KHADC regarding this matter before we can take up this proposal of the CM in the General Meeting of the SNSBH,” he said.
