Hijacked truck recovered, driver found dead

One person arrested for alleged involvement in the hijacking of the truck in Karbi Anglong

BOKAJAN, August 26: In a major crack down, the Khatkhati Police thwarted a bid to smuggle a loaded 10 wheeler truck which was hijacked from Dhubri in Assam-West Bengal border.

As reported, the truck loaded with mustard oil was on its way to Tinsukia from Delhi. The owner of the truck reportedly lost contact with his driver after it entered Assam through Srirampur border. The truck was fitted with a GPS vigation device which alerted the owner that it has changed its course towards Dimapur from the Numuligarh junction. The truck was later recovered from the parking lot of a fuel station in Assam-galand interstate border.

“We have arrested a person viz. Aamir Hussain from the truck. However, two other fled from the spot seeing the police team”, said the investigating officer.

The shocking revelations made by Aamir in custody led police to the recovery of a body from Kanchanjuri area under Bagori police station. The body is believed to be of the driver Mukesh Jadav who had been brutally murdered and his face burnt with acid to conceal identity by the notorious gang of truck lifters.

In a similar incident last year, nine persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in the hijacking of a truck, carrying cosmetics worth Rs 66 lakh, near Assam-West Bengal border.


The truck, carrying cosmetics of a reputed private company, was hijacked by a gang of dacoits when the vehicle was on its way to Kolkata from a plant in Doomdooma town about 20 days ago.

The nine members were arrested from Dhubri, Gossaigaon and gaoan in Assam, Asansol in West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. The police also recovered the truck.

In another incident last year, an unknown person was found murdered beside the Highway at 2½ Mile, Dimapur. His body was recovered the person was identified as V. Rai, a truck driver, by his handyman.

The handyman had revealed that the truck was carrying 70 barrels of bitumen from Assam and was bound for Kohima when a group of unknown persons had boarded the truck in Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district after requesting the driver to drop them in Dimapur. On reaching Dimapur, both the driver and handyman were overpowered by the miscreants. The driver was strangulated to death by them and his body was later dumped near the highway at 2½ Mile. The miscreants also took away the truck.

However, the handyman maged to escape and later reported the matter to the police. Acting on the information, a joint team of Dimapur Police and Assam Police arrested four persons the same evening from Sukanjan under Bokajan police station of Karbi Anglong district.

On further interrogation of the arrested persons, 70 barrels of bitumen was recovered from an abandoned house in ga United village, Dimapur and the stolen truck was recovered near Nihokhu village area.
