Bongaigaon, Aug 9:  In support of several demands, the All Assam Trained Home Guard Association staged railway blockade on Wednesday in Bongaigaon between Bongaigaon and New Bongaigaon Railway stations. Their demands include regularization of jobs of home guards, fixing minimum salary as Rs 15,000 and pension benefits.

Anta Das, president of All Assam Trained Home Guards Association, said that in other States, jobs of home guards had been regularized and they were getting more salary than home guards in Assam. “In Assam, home guards are paid Rs 235 and Rs 250 rupees per day. This is very low and maintaining a family is impossible. So we demand that the minimum salary should be fixed at Rs 15,000 per month. We also demand to abolish the recruitment system of home guards for six months. We demand that our services should be regularized immediately. Otherwise, we will launch a massive democratic agitation in the coming days,” he said.

No train was affected due to this blockade as there was no train on that route during the blockade hours. They also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister in this regard.
