Silchar, July 2: “Police had no role in Trisha Roy Choudhury’s recovery from Khelariat, Meghalaya. Police administration is still in slumber. During our agitation near Assam University on June 23, Jitu Kumar Das, ACS, Additiol Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, assured us that Neha Bagdi would be recovered within a week. Even today of this assurance no trace of the girl has been found. It was the general people who helped in finding out Trisha. Police has agreed that Neha has been kidpped but they are uble to trace her out,” said Hari rayan Verma, joint secretary, Cha Mazdoor Sangha addressing at a mass convention jointly organized by Forum for Social Harmony (FSH) and Durgako Development Sangha at Hasi Khushi Community Hall, here on Sunday.

“On June 23, when we were on a peaceful demonstration, police did not even let us drink water. Our people coming from nearby areas of Barakhai, Silcoorie, Irongmara and Dharmakhal were stopped from reaching the spot. At present, Sebul, the driver of Trisha Roy Choudhury’s family and Bijoy Bagdi, Neha’s love interest, are in police custody. They are being tortured from time to time. Cachar Police is worthless and are just passing their time. They could have easily gheraoed the saloon and find out more details,” Hari rayan Verma added to say.

Hari rayan Verma further said that Neha is a poor girl and cannot even come to the town owing to lack of travel expenses. “How on earth one can suppose or assume that she is involved in it. A series of protest movements is the only solution. I urge upon the Police administration not to waste time in trifling matters but to try and finds out the poor girl. “I want my daughter back. She is not at all a crimil. I urge upon the masses to create pressure on both the District and Police administration to find out Neha. Life has become miserable without her, said Mangala Bagdi, mother of Neha Bagdi, in a tearful voice.

She was present at the mass convention along with her husband Gopal Bagdi, relatives and her well-wishers. Shanto Bagdi, Neha neighbour, explained the whole case in a nutshell and made it clear that Neha could not have been involved in such heinous crime. “An FIR was also filed in this regard. There is a preconceived notion that poor, destitute, helpless and needy people are crimils. They are soft targets and it is easier to frame them,” said Shanto Bagdi. Police have the power to accomplish any feat. “But they have no compassion or sympathy for Neha. They could b Subodh Biswas but in case of Neha, they have failed to impress people,” said Jayanta Das, member of garik Sartaraksha Sangram Parishad.

Taking a dig at Trisha Roy Choudhury’s mother, Chabi Deb, social activist and also a member of Netaji Foundation said, “There is no streak of motherhood in Trisha’s mother. She is indeed a ruthless, heartless and cruel woman. Since her daughter has been found, she has not even bothered to make necessary queries regarding Neha. Nothing is being done for Neha. No prize money, no rewards and no action. Why our ministers and MLAs are silent? Why is Police mum in this matter? There are many such questions which have to be answered or found out at the earliest.”

Kishore Bhattacharjee of INTUC pointed out it may be the case that Trisha was just a bait to kidp Neha Bagdi. “If their purpose was to kidp Trisha, they would not have left her like this. There is a high possibility that actually the culprit wanted to kidp Neha,” said Kishore Bhattacharjee. Shuvadip Dutta of Separate Barak Commission said that such mass conventions should be also attended by an SP, DC, MP, MLAs or ministers. Niladri Roy of Barak Valley Human Rights Commission said, “It is better to file a case with the Human Rights commission.”

However advocate Saumen Choudhury begged to differ and said, “A writ petition at Gauhati High Court will be a better option. File a case by submitting a writ petition.” Gobinda Bagdi, brother of Bijoy Bagdi, urged the Police administration to probe into the matter and find out Neha as soon as possible. A number of suggestions were put forth by the speakers. Decisions have been taken to allow some more time to the Police administration, submit memorandum, create pressure on the authorities concerned to trace Neha and release Sebul and Bijoy at the earliest and staging of movements at tea gardens of rsinghpur, Kanchanpur, Ramchandi and Kukichara.
