GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), Feb 16: The activists of Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA) Golaghat district committee staged a two-hour protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday demanding resolution of various problems of tea garden labours in Golaghat district.

More than 200 activists shouted various slogans against the Sarbandan Sonowal-led BJP state government.

Talking to the media, the president of the organization, Jagdish Boraik said that the BJP government had made various promises like allotment of land pattas, implementation of Plantation Labour Act 1951, providing proper water supply, sanitation and hygiene facilities among the tea garden labourers before the assembly Election. But after coming to power, the BJP  had forgotten the promises made to tea garden labourers.

The union demanded that the State Government should immediately allot land pattas for every tea tribe household and grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the community. Later, the activists submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat.
