KOKRAJHAR, April 4: Independent candidate from No 1 Porbotjhora ST constituency Moon Moon Brahma, who is the sister-in-law of BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, is expected to have an edge over the nine contesting candidates as voters from all communities are coming forward with new hopes and aspirations in this backward area of the district.

A huge motorcycle rally was brought out in Porbotjhora on Saturday which started from the election office at Kazigaon and the subdivisiol headquarter of Porbotjhora that connects Tipkai, Monglajhora and other important places. Hundreds of supporters joined the bike rally for Moon Moon Brahma. She has been campaigning in a massive way and getting good support from the people.

In an interview with the media persons at Kazigaon, Brahma said she decided to contest in the forthcoming election on the basis of the support of the people of the constituency. She said she would give importance to the basic amenities if she voted to power. “In Porbotjhora subdivision, the people have no proper road communication and there are no drinking water facilities, good health centres as well as other infrastructure,” she said adding that people of the subdivision were economically, educatiolly and socially backward but despite this fact, no representative in the past 10 years had done anything much for the people. She also said that if voted she would lay stress on the basic needs of the people of all communities and would try to fulfil her promises.

When asked whether her elder sister Seuli Brahma Mohilary, who is the wife of BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, backed her candidature, she said the people of the locality had been extending their support to her and unlike as reported in some media, her elder sister had not done any campaigning for her.
