MANGALDAI, June 8: The Kaziranga Wildlife Society (KWLS), Wildlife Welfare Trust (WWT) and North East Area Development Forum for Regiol Development (NEADFRD) jointly organized a day-long interactive and poster campaign session recently at Burapahar range area of Kaziranga tiol Park (KNP) in association with Assam Police and Forest Department.
The day-long programme was started at Amguri Bagan near Jakhalabandha where secretary of KWLS, Mubi Akhtar and former Conservator of Forest, CR Bhobora had an interaction session with children and villagers. Colour posters of rhino and wild elephants with important messages were distributed among villagers and forest personnel. Eight villagers were felicitated with gamosa and a tree sapling each for their contribution in the field of conservation and anti-poaching activities. Environmental jourlist Jayanta Kumar Das and office bearers of Kaziranga WLS felicitated all the eight personnel. The programme was also attended by president Padum Borthakur and working president Prasanta Gogoi of KWLS, Range Officer of Burapahar Range Puspadhar Buragohain, and Officer-in-Charge of Jakhalabandha Police Station, SI Deben Bora.
Another interactive session was held at Burapahar Forest Range Office with forest personnel working in interior camps in the second programme. Secretary of KWLS and honorary member of Assam Wildlife Board, Mubi Akhtar welcomed all the forest personnel working in odd conditions as Burapahar had been most vulnerable to poaching of all the range offices under Kaziranga NP because of its geographical ture.
KWLS offered felicitation to the Officer-in-Charge of Jakhalabandha Police Station Deben Bora, Forest Range Officer Puspadhar Buragohain and former Conservator of Forest CR Bhobora who has been working against poaching of rhinos and elephants in Kaziranga and Mas NP. Upen Tamuli (Forester), wildlife activist Gautam Saikia, Sub-Inspector of Police, Bhumidhar Deuri and Officer-in-Charge of Jakhalabandha PS, Deben Bora taking part in the session, shared their real life experiences with society members. All of them suggested a few steps for boosting anti -poaching activities like wall or fencing by NH 37 so that animals cannot flee to Karbi Hills where they get killed, supply of sophisticated weapons, better solar lights and cells in interior camps, speed boats in good condition, employment of more forest staff, good clothing, rain coats and sanction of leave with salary once in a year.
