KHADC CEM's brother stabbed

Shillong, Jan 18: In a first major instance of pre-poll violence, a brother of Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Pynshngain N Syiem was stabbed on at Dangar Village  on Wednesday night.

The KHADC CEM is contesting from Mawsynram constituency on a People’s democratic Front (PDF) ticket after having deserted the Congress camp and his brother has been identified as Kynpham nda Syiem.

The police have attributed the incident to political rivalry.

A police officer has confirmed that more than a couple of individuals have been med in the FIR filed soon after the incident.

“The investigating officer, after initial probe, has informed us that the accused are still at large,” he said even as he is alysing the sequence of events that led to the incident.

“We are carrying out an investigation to find out the exact motive for the crime,” the police officer informed this correspondent, even as top cops of East Khasi Hills district could not be contacted till the filing of this report.

Police sources said they are on a leather hunt to  b the accused, even as Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor remarked that the police will ascertain whether the stabbing incident has any connection to the election or any other crime. “Officially, we have been informed, but there has been no official complaint from the police in this regard,” stated Kharkongor.
