KMSS demands arrest of 'corrupt' officials of Golaghat Zila Parishad

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), August 23: The activists of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Golaghat District Committee staged protest near Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday demanding immediate arrest of former Chief Executive Officer, Junior Engineer and chairman of Golaghat Zila Parishad for alleged corruption. More than 200 members of the organization shouted various slogans against the State Government.

Talking to media persons, the secretary of KMSS Golaghat district committee, Ratan Daw said “We have raised allegation of misappropriation of fund to the tune of more than Rs 1.15 crore in Golaghat Zila Parishad. The former CEO Biren Chandra Phukan, junior engineer Sanjib Mudoi and chairman of Zila Parishad, Hiranyamoyee Bora were directly involved in corruption. In spite of various graft allegations against them, the administration still has not taken any action.”

Daw also slammed BJP MLA of Khumtai constituency Mril Saikia, who had claimed to work against corruption but was silent in this matter.

Notably, serious anomalies had been come to light through an RTI application where more than Rs 38 lakh interest money of various schemes fund allotted to Golaghat Zila Parishad was allegedly misappropriated by the officials.  Besides, former CEO Biren Chandra Phukan allegedly engaged a peon med Jadav Bharali of Hajo district with a salary Rs 6,500 per month. In the me of peon Jadav Bharali, CEO Biren Chandra Phukan allegedly withdrew Rs 5,200 on October 5, 2015, Rs 6,500 on  November 3, 2015, Rs 6,500 on December 3, 2015 from the office account through online RTGS. The KMSS submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat and demanded immediate arrest of the corrupt officials and a high-level enquiry into the matter.
