Jorhat, Jan 20: The Indian Army celebrated the spirit of Republic Day at Jorhat on Friday by organising ‘Know Your Army Mela’ 2017 at the Jorhat stadium. The event was iugurated by Brigadier Ravi Kumar Gupta GOC, HQ 41 Sub Area. The display included infantry weapons, Machine guns, long range mortars and field artillery guns. The array also showcased the weapons and equipments used by the Special Forces Commandos, state of the art radio communication devices and parachute for dropping supplies in forward areas.
A special show by the army dog unit was absolutely splendid. An Army band gave a scintillating performance playing patriotic and popular tunes during the occasion. The specialist weapons of Para Commandos were the center of attraction for the children. The popularity of the event could be gauged by the huge turnout of public to watch the Mela which included a large number of school going children, youth and people from all walks of life from Jorhat and adjoining areas.
The Mela was enjoyed by everyone and was instrumental in igniting the spirit of patriotism and tiolistic pride in the hearts and minds of the people of Jorhat. The Mela further motivated the youth to choose army as an elite career option. The district administration of Jorhat provided full support for the successful conduct of the event. Such an initiative by the Indian Army to connect with the civil population is a welcome step towards building mutual trust and confidence and assures the general public that the security of our tion is in ‘Safe Hands’.
