Kukis remember Black September victims

IMPHAL Sept 13: On Sunday the Kukis remembered about 900 innocent men, women and children who were massacred during the ethnic cleansing in Manipur and some parts of galand. Special prayers were held in churches for the repose of the departed souls. As a part of the ethnic cleansing the Kukis were served quit notices. They were asked to leave certain areas with September 15, 1993 as the deadline. The Kuki villages of Joupi and Janglanphai villages were set on fire on the morning of September 13, 1993. The terrified villagers fled. The armed persons laid multiple ambushes at the bridle mountain path. 87 men, women and children were mowed down using automatic rifles. Some persons maged to escape by jumping down the hill slopes. The same day armed persons raided the Gelmal, Sontung and Nungshat villages. Altogether 20 villagers were masscred in these three villages.
