Tezpur, August 1: Kendriya Vidyalaya Central University has been made the city centre for UDAAN, a project to give wings to girl students who aim to pursue higher education in engineering and assist them to prepare for the entrance examitions while studying in classes XI and XII. The last date to apply online to get benefit of UDAAN is August 7. The girls from PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Maths) stream can register themselves for UDAAN 2017-19 by visiting the websites www.cbse.nic.in or www.cbseacademic.nic.in.
Pravesh Khare, Principal of KV Central University, Tezpur and city co-orditor of UDAAN, informed that the aim of the project was to address low enrolment ratio of girl students in engineering institutions in the country by filling teaching gap between school education and engineering entrance examition. Including Tezpur, there are three centres in Assam. The other two centres are Guwahati and Silchar. The project constructs a broad platform for girl students of Class XI and Class XII where assistance by means of online portal, virtual weekend contact classes at the centre, round-the-clock helpline and study materials so as to eble them to study at their own pace, time and comfort.
Fincial assistance to girls who get admission in IIT, NIT centrally funded engineering institutes is also given as per norms. Weekly online contact classes are conducted every Saturday and Sunday, which is broadcast to all 65 centres across the country. As per eligibility, the girl students should have minimum 70 per cent marks in Class X overall and 80 per cent marks in Science and Mathematics, and for Boards which follow CGPA, minimum CGPA of 8 and a GPA of 9 in Science and Mathematics.
In addition, the annual family income of candidates should be less than Rs. 6 lakh per annum and the girl students studying in Class XI of Kendriya Vidyalayas, voday Vidyalayas, government schools of any recognized board in India, CBSE affiliated private schools are eligible to apply.
